It’s official: Christmas is here! Last night, Tas and I went into town to watch the lights being turned on and generally soak up some Christmas-sy atmosphere.
We were serenaded by a brass band outside (where else) John Lewis – I don’t think there’s anything that makes me feel Christmassier than a good brass band!
Then we came across what is obviously another Christmas staple – a hotpanted Segway rider.
The crowds were enormous, especially around Princesshay Square, so Tas and I made our way down the high street towards the Guild Hall.
After a very dramatic countdown courtesy of Radio Exe, the lights in the little square were turned on with a flourish.
And we continued on our way exploring. The Exeter Street Food Market had set up camp alongside Santa’s grotto, making me immediately regret already having eaten!
We saved the best till last, though, and our final stop was Cathedral Green for the newly-opened Christmas Market.
It was too busy to get a proper look at anything but I absolutely can’t wait to go back and visit properly (and I’ll do a proper post on it then too!). I couldn’t declare it Christmas until I’d had a suitably seasonal drink though, so we paid a visit to the packed bar. After many minutes deliberating between spiced apple juice and mulled wine, I went for the latter – the smell was just too tempting!
After a bit more wandering and much admiring of all the furry headbands and Christmas jumpers on offer, we made our way back up the newly-lit-up high street and headed home feeling suitably Christmassy.
How many days till I can watch Love Actually?
