Storm Chasing

This weekend, my parents came down to visit me in Devon. Over breakfast at the Magdalen Chapter on Saturday morning (thumbs up to their smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, by the way), we made the possibly-dangerous decision to ignore all sensible advice and head down to the stormy coast.

We thought it was best to avoid Dawlish, so instead headed for Sidmouth, which is generally gorgeous and beautiful. We arrived to find some pretty spectacular stormy seas & crashy waves, and so we joined the brave masses on the windy, rainy seafront.

The waves had thrown pebbles & even huge stones all over the pavement and there was seaspray and foam absolutely everywhere in the air – we all felt distinctly salty even after five minutes on the front!

As more and more clouds formed and the waves got increasingly choppy, things started to look very Day After Tomorrow.

After a wander around the shops of Sidmouth and a necessary stop at Roly’s Fudge, we continued on our way. By this point, the sun had re-emerged and we couldn’t resist pulling over to take more pictures of the gorgeous views.

It was a bracing experience to say the least but it was also pretty amazing to see the power of the wind and waves. I hope everyone in Devon/the South West is staying safe & dry in these horrible floods!

  1. Such awesome pictures!
I’ve pretty much locked all my doors and windows and stayed in my lounge for the last week (a couple of crazy rough dog walks aside).
I NEED to get to the Magdalen Chapter, stat.
